Compliments!

Logo - 150 A special thanks to the graphic artist who designed my logo and header. Although a vision for the logo was clear in my mind, I found it difficult to describe exactly what I was looking for. All I could say was that I wanted it to be simple and creative. It takes true talent to turn that into an awesome image that fits my vision perfectly.

Houston Howard is a creative, intuitive, and gifted entrepreneur whose hobbies have led him to his career. I have always believed that if you do what you love, you will love what you do. And furthermore, you will excel in that area. Houston’s many projects and business ventures speak as an example to that principle.

Books for Beginners

I love it when I get a new beginner student.  This kind of student means one thing to me: a fresh slate!  It wasn’t always this way.  For a long time I dreaded having a beginning student.  They had a reputation of forgetting simple concepts week after week.  And, it seemed like I could never get them to stay focused.  But now I have just the right set of books and tools to keep them occupied during the lesson — 45 minutes worth of goodies!

Order for My Studio

calendar_medium

Over the summer my students had the option to take lessons during the day or evening.  As a result my schedule was very sporadic.  Every week I was presented with different teaching hours.  I can’t complain too much since I was only teaching 3 or 4 days out of the week.  But boy am I ready to get back to a normal schedule. Golden Goals

From teacher, to student, to teacher, to student.  Have you ever thought about your former piano teacher’s pedagogical lineage?  If you are a teacher, then you had a teacher, who also had a teacher, who had a teacher, and so on.  My most recent piano teacher is a fourth generation student of Beethoven!  I had another teacher during my undergrad years who could trace her teacher’s lineage back to Liszt!  Its amazing what legacies can be passed down through generations of teachers.  Whether your lineage is famous or not, there are certain ways that you teach because you had a teacher who taught you the same way.  Recognizing how to transfer this information can be a powerful teaching technique.
